RRS Celebrates America Recycles Day

Ann Arbor, MI — Worried about the amount of trash you put out every week? Want to recycle but don’t know how? Why not decide to make a difference in your landfill habits in honor of America Recycles Day.

America Recycles Day, celebrated every year on November 15th, is a national initiative by Keep America Beautiful, Inc. encouraging Americans to recycle and buy recycled content products. The day raises awareness and provides opportunities to educate citizens and communities on the overall benefits of recycling. This year marks the 12th anniversary of America Recycles Day.  Much like Earth Day, this day gives us a chance to celebrate what Mother Nature has provided us and allows us to make a pledge to preserve these gifts.  Even one small step like recycling newspapers instead of putting them in the trash can benefit us all. Indiana Recycling Coalition Celebrates 20 Years of Business

Indianapolis, IN — The Indiana Recycling Coalition has a lot in which to be proud.  On Saturday, November 7, 2009 they celebrated 20 years of recycling advocacy in Indiana. Holding a formal gala at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, members, staff, and sponsors enjoyed dinner and cocktails while discussing the future agenda of the Coalition and recent legislative success. Congrats University of Michigan – 20 Years of Recycling

Ann Arbor, MI – Resource Recycling Systems would like to extend a huge congratulations to the University of Michigan as it marks their 20th anniversary of recycling.  The University of Michigan began one of the first university recycling programs in 1989 with the collection of white office paper, newspaper and cardboard.  Since that time they have greatly expanded their collections to include all mixed papers, bottles, cans, glass, small electronics, scrap metal, scrap wood, food wastes, and a long list of hard to recycle items. RRS Assists City of Flint with New Composting Site

Flint, MI— The buildings are gone but the cement slabs are still there reminding residents of the now vacant “Chevy in the Hole” facility that was the site of the famous sit down strike of 1935; the birthplace of not only General Motors but also the UAW.   Soon, all of this will just be a memory thanks to initiatives by the City of Flint and the Army Corp of Engineers to transform this brownfield site into a beautiful green corridor. Bill Would Allow Landfills to Brew Methane From Yard Clippings

Lansing, MI—It’s been a busy week in the Michigan capital as the House Energy and Technology Committee is debating a bill that would change the current yard waste landfill ban.  The proposed bill would allow landfills to collect yard clippings for methane gas energy harvesting purposes. Debate on both sides of this bill has been taking place this week.  Our very own JD Lindeberg (RRS Principal and CFO) added testimony in opposition to the bill adding support to the testimonies of Kerrin O’Brien (Michigan Recycling Coalition’s Executive Director), Gary Melow (Michigan Biomass Director), Ted Barrett (Mid-Michigan Recycling) and Fred Thompson (Indian Summer Recycling).   Read the whole story…
