Last Saturday, November 5th, Illinois Recycling Association hosted their 3rd Annual America Recycles Day “Recycling Heroes Gala” at the Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin, IL. This event celebrated organizations and individuals that have had a significant impact on recycling and sustainability in Illinois. The event featured a Cocktail Hour and Silent Auction Reception on the patio of the Fox River Room, as well as musical entertainment provided by Jack Kaufman and Steve Sharp, and Dinner. Frank Locantore of Green America gave the key note address. Tish Powell, Councilwoman for the City of Elgin, gave a very upbeat and informative presentation on Elgin’s green programs and accomplishments in reducing waste.

Kris Kaar of RRS attended the gala and applauded successes in Illinois as awards were given to Caterpillar, Inc. for outstanding progress towards Zero Waste and Sustainability, to State Senator Susan Garrett and State Representative Daniel Biss for their outstanding leadership in passing SB 2106 (a bill that improves the Electronic Recycling and Reuse Act by nearly doubling the state’s annual recycling goal, increasing economic development for Illinois’ electronic recyclers and creating greater opportunities for free residential recycling programs across the state), the 2011 updates to the Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act, and to Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful for being an outstanding community resource for Waste Reduction, Reuse and Recycling. Kris said the event “was a wonderful opportunity to mingle with my colleagues who have accomplished so much to promote recycling in Illinois.”

Kris and RRS as a whole are glad to support the IRA in their mission to encourage the responsible use of resources by promoting Waste Reduction, Re-Use, and Recycling. Kris noted, “This group is not just celebrating accomplishments – there was a great deal of talk about the future of recycling in Illinois.”

Indianapolis, IN — The Indiana Recycling Coalition has a lot in which to be proud. On Saturday, November 7, 2009 they celebrated 20 years of recycling advocacy in Indiana. Holding a formal gala at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, members, staff, and sponsors enjoyed dinner and cocktails while discussing the future agenda of the Coalition and recent legislative success.

RRS Principal Marty Seaman and his wife Karen were in attendance to enjoy the festivities and answer recycling questions.

Seaman says, “For me, it is exciting to see the Indiana Recycling Coalition’s success with the E-Scrap legislation as I worked with them on E-Scrap the first time around several years ago. The Coalition has handled the last 20 years with a mature effectiveness and I wish them 20 more years of success.”

RRS has been a solid sponsor of conferences and other education activities for several years and proudly purchased carbon credits to offset the environmental impact of the event.

Carey Hamilton, the IRC’s Executive Director states, “The IRC is proud to have served as Indiana’s voice for recycling over the past 20 years and we are thrilled to count RRS and its dedicated team of professionals as supporters of our organization. We were particularly pleased to have RRS secure our first ever carbon offset sponsorship for the event.”
