RRS Celebrates America Recycles Day
Ann Arbor, MI — Worried about the amount of trash you put out every week? Want to recycle but don’t know how? Why not decide to make a difference in your landfill habits in honor of America Recycles Day.
America Recycles Day, celebrated every year on November 15th, is a national initiative by Keep America Beautiful, Inc. encouraging Americans to recycle and buy recycled content products. The day raises awareness and provides opportunities to educate citizens and communities on the overall benefits of recycling. This year marks the 12th anniversary of America Recycles Day. Much like Earth Day, this day gives us a chance to celebrate what Mother Nature has provided us and allows us to make a pledge to preserve these gifts. Even one small step like recycling newspapers instead of putting them in the trash can benefit us all.
Food for thought:
- Every three months, Americans landfill enough aluminum to rebuild our entire commercial air fleet.
- The average person has the opportunity to recycle more than 25,000 cans in a lifetime.
- Americas throw away enough office paper each year to build a 12-foot-high wall of paper from New York to Seattle.
- Making paper from recycled paper reduces contributions to air pollution by 95%.
- Recycling a stack of newspapers just 3 feet high saves one tree.
- The plastic recycling industry provides jobs for more than 52,000 American workers.
- Five PET plastic soda bottles yield enough fiber for one extra large T-shirt, one square foot of carpet or enough fiber fill to fill one ski jacket
