Resa Dimino to Lead NERC's Sustainable Materials and Recycling Policy Course This Fall

Resa Dimino is Teaching at NERC this Fall.

The three-session virtual course runs Wednesdays, September 9, 16, and 23 from 1:00 to 3:45 PM ET.

RRS Co-CEO Resa Dimino is teaching NERC's Sustainable Materials and Recycling Policy course this fall. The three-session virtual course runs September 9, 16, and 23 from 1:00 to 3:45 PM ET, and is designed for professionals at all levels who want a stronger foundation in how policy shapes the recycling and sustainable materials landscape.

RRS helped develop this program from the ground up, translating years of practical expertise into curriculum that connects real-world policy experience with the frameworks professionals need to navigate an increasingly complex regulatory environment.

What You'll Learn

The course covers six modules through live, interactive sessions and case studies: the history of recycling policy, major policy trends, the evolution of deposit return systems in the U.S., extended producer responsibility (EPR) past and present for packaging, paper products, and other materials, additional packaging policies, and education and outreach best practices that support successful policy implementation. Each session is designed to build on the last, giving participants a cohesive picture of how the policy landscape has evolved and where it is headed.

Resa will draw on her direct experience working inside these systems to bring the material to life, moving beyond definitions and timelines to explore how policy decisions play out in practice. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of the forces shaping the industry and the vocabulary to engage in policy conversations with confidence.

Why It Matters

RRS helped develop this program from the ground up. Understanding how recycling systems are regulated, funded, and shaped by legislation is increasingly essential for anyone working in this space, whether you are on the advocacy side, inside a producer organization, managing a municipal program, or advising clients on compliance and strategy. The pace of policy change, particularly around EPR and packaging legislation, makes this knowledge more relevant than ever.

Resa brings more than 30 years of experience in waste reduction, recycling, product stewardship, and environmental economic development through leadership roles at RRS, Signalfire Group, government agencies, and industry organizations. Having Resa teach this course means participants are learning from someone who has spent three decades working inside these systems, not studying them from a distance. RRS helped build both of NERC's course offerings from the ground up because we believe advancing this industry starts with investing in the people doing the work. This course is an opportunity to build that foundation with one of the most experienced policy voices in the field.
